Sunnybrook is dedicated to providing excellent customer service to our stakeholders with disabilities. We strive to communicate with our stakeholders in a manner that takes into account their various communication needs.

The following services are available at Sunnybrook to assist communication:

TTY Locations (Telephone Teletypes)

TTY is a telecommunications device for the deaf and hearing impaired.

Bayview Campus

TTY telephones are located at the M1 entrance and in the Emergency Department waiting room.

The Bayview Campus TTY phone number is 416-480-5342.

The Holland Centre

A TTY telephone is located just inside the out-patient department waiting room of the west wing.

The Holland Centre TTY phone number is 416-967-8707

Pocketalkers

A Pocketalker is a portable amplifier that can be used for one-on-one communication with someone who has a hearing impairment.

Some inpatient units and the Emergency Department have Pocketalkers available for use. If one is not available, they can be obtained from the Audiology Department at M1 102, or by dialing 416-480-4143.

Interpreter Services

If you require an interpreter, please let the staff know when scheduling your appointment so that one can be booked for you.
American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters are available upon request. Please note that advance notice is required. 

Communi-Kit

Each kit contains a hearing enhancement device, a Pocketalker, a white board to write on for deaf/mute patients, pictograms for communicating with aphasic persons/non-English speaking persons, and a magnifying glass.

Several Communi-Kits are available at the Bayview campus and the Holland Centre including in the Emergency Department (416-480-4037) and the Regional Geriatric Day Hospital located at H-Ground on the Bayview campus (416-480-4418).
