SBRT Training Program

Overview

This comprehensive, multi-faceted curriculum is designed for learners to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform SBRT at their home centres. Disease sites covered will include those commonly treated with SBRT.

This course is for radiation medicine learners (for example, radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, medical physicists).

Specific objectives:

  • Discuss stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
  • Describe specific clinical indications for common sites treated with SBRT
  • Identify the recommended requirements of a successful SBRT program
  • Examine the use of multi-modality imaging in delineation of the target and organs at risk
  • Discuss motion management strategies for precise target delineation
  • Compare and contrast dosimetric approaches to SBRT
  • Identify quality assurance components for plan evaluation in SBRT
  • Discuss positioning, localization and monitoring of the patient during treatment delivery
  • Compare and contrast image guidance strategies
  • Discuss and examine troubleshooting

Method of delivery:

Two days of intensive onsite learning consisting of:

  • Didactic lectures interspersed with practical training
  • Practical training exercises facilitated by knowledge experts
    • Contouring exercises
    • IGRT and Image Fusion Exercises
    • Clinical simulation exercises for simulation, planning and treatment delivery

Prerequisites

Participants will complete a pre‐assessment that will direct the content and allow for customized two-day onsite training tailored to the needs of learners based on: specialty, experience and area of interest.

It is strongly recommended that all learners complete the following pre‐learning exercises prior to attending the onsite training program:

  • Self‐directed SBRT e‐modules that are housed on an approved learning management system
  • Readings from pre‐reading syllabus

  • Spine case Study
  • Practical: Contouring and Image Fusions
  • Practical: Plan Evaluation

  • Practical: Image Guidance
  • Q&A Expert Panel
