Graduate Nursing Student Placement Requests

Application process guidelines

To ensure the graduate nursing students have a suitable match with a Sunnybrook preceptor, we ask for the following:

• Completed online Graduate Student Placement Request Form outlining the graduate student’s interest in the selected are.
• Current syllabus of the clinical course and the nursing program in general.

Documentation requirements prior to student placement

A current Affiliation Agreement needs to be in place with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre prior to any student placement. The academic placement coordinator should contact Sunnybrook to ensure this is in place or to begin the process to establishing an agreement.

Once the graduate student placement has been confirmed Sunnybrook will issue an email to the graduate student for access into the student registration system. Once logged in the student will obtain information on the following:

• Requirement Documents
• eLearning Modules and Clinical System Computer IDs (EPR, PCC, etc. as needed)
• Security ID Badge, Parking etc.

There are acute care NP student placement opportunities at Sunnybrook for those who have finished their first clinical placement and are ready to focus on in depth learning with a subspecialty focus. Placements are available in Oncology, Neurosurgery Nephrology, Endocrinology, Acute Pain Service, Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, High Risk Obstetrics and HIV Clinic.

At this time Sunnybrook is unable to provide first year primary care placements. Preference is given to students who have clinical experience related to their placement request. Paediatric placements can be accommodated for experienced NICU nurses only.
