Today, Sunnybrook Veterans and staff, together with a group of schoolchildren, joined the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command as they presented the province’s first poppy to the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

The event was a ceremonial launch of the province’s 2022 Poppy Campaign, which officially starts on Friday, October 28th and runs through to Remembrance Day.

Legion 1st Vice-President Lynn McClellan presented the first poppy to the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell. Mr. McClellan also presented a poppy to 100-old-WWII Veteran Stan Dinney, a resident of the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.

School children from the Toronto French School read a poem of Remembrance and their literary compositions.

Legion Remembrance programs commemorate the men and women who died in the military service of Canada during war and peace. Maintaining the tradition of Remembrance is a sacred trust and the Legion's most important role.

The Poppy has been widely recognized as a symbol of Remembrance, since it was first adopted in 1921. By wearing the poppy, we demonstrate our gratitude to those who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy.
