Sunnybrook and Telus partner on electronic records

June 1, 2010

"When we were building this system we needed to find a partner that was leading in both patient care and the introduction and development of e-health technologies," said David Thomas, TELUS, Vice President, Health Solutions Ontario.

"We didn't have to look very far to find a global leader in this area. Sunnybrook has been a pioneer in the e-health world for years now and has truly been a leader in this field."

Building on the success of MyChart application, which provides our patients with access to their electronic record through a secure section of our website, this new venture provides the same technology through the TELUS HealthSpace website.

"By combining the innovation of our MyChart application with the incredible telecommunications infrastructure available with TELUS, we are providing an unparalleled level of service to Canadians," said Sam Marafioti, Sunnybrook's vice president, corporate strategy and development, and chief information officer.

"Participating in this new online environment will provide patients and their families with a wealth of helpful information they can use to make informed decisions about their care."

In the TELUS HealthSpace online environment, patients will be able to access their health information and share it, if they choose to do so, with their health-care providers. As well as their own information, the online space includes information about common diseases and conditions from a number of trusted partners and it offers people the ability to begin to manage their care from almost anywhere with an internet connection.

HealthSpace apps for the Apple iPhone and RIM Blackberry will also be available, which will enable mobile access to personal health information.
