Dr. Anthony Levitt in the National Post
Dr. Anthony Levitt, Chief of Sunnybrook’s Hurvitz Brain Sciences Centre spoke to the National Post about Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as SAD, a form of depression related to changes in the season.
“Certain hormone levels, certain basic building blocks of proteins — these all shift with the seasons,” Dr. Levitt explains in the article.
Precisely what leads to SAD, both psychological and biological factors, continue to be studied by researchers.
Dr. Levitt notes it may be related to each individual’s “unique psychological response to the seasons”.
Dr. Levitt co-wrote the first Canadian guidelines on the treatment of SAD, published in 1999.
