More than $40K in education research support awarded

Nearly $44,000 has been awarded to support education research and scholarship at Sunnybrook.

In the second annual peer-reviewed education research grant competition, 18 applications were received, totaling $152,367 in requested funds.

A panel reviewed the applications and chose to fund seven proposals – granting $43,448 in total.

“The proposals we funded have the potential to change the way health-care education is delivered at Sunnybrook and beyond,” said Dr. Carilynne Yarascavitch, director of Sunnybrook’s education research unit. “Education is foundational for inventing the future of healthcare. We are proud of our work in this area, and are excited to expand on the development and application of our expertise through support of these research projects.”

The applicants represented diverse disciplines, including anesthesia, emergency medicine, family medicine, neurosurgery, nursing, nutrition and more. Research teams include clinicians such as physicians, nurses, medical radiation technologists, but also education coordinators, students, and scientists.

  • Dr. Shady Ashamalla, Dr. Vanessa Palter, Agnes Ryzynski, Adam Jokhio - An innovative programme for teaching faculty an advanced minimally invasive surgical technique
  • Dr. Imad Awad, Dr. Paul McHardy, Dr. Oskar Singer, Dr. Grace Kong, Jeffery Chung - Implementation of www.eLearnMD.com as a learning management system for the anesthesia residency training program and evaluate its effectiveness as a teaching tool
