Sunnybrook celebrates teaching and learning

October 21, 2014

Thank youlearning

The Sunnybrook community celebrated teaching and learning recently during the annual Education Week.

On Tuesday, Oct. 14, more than 230 learners from various health care disciplines were treated to lunch and entertainment to celebrate Student, Resident and Fellow Appreciation Day.

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, hundreds of Sunnybrook staff and physicians stopped by booths at all three sites to receive a token of thanks for the work they do to teach students, patients, families and colleagues. More than 1,300 thank you e-cards have already been sent. You can still thank a teacher today! Send an e-card now. Go to www.sunnybrook.ca/teacher-appreciation

On Thursday, Oct. 16, more than 100 people gathered in McLaughlin Auditorium to learn more about Patient and Family Education and specifically, how health literacy impacts patient care and outcomes.

Friday, Oct. 17 was the 3rd Annual Sunnybrook Education Conference: Technology-Enhanced Learning. Nearly 300 educators and learners from across the GTA gathered for workshops, keynote addresses from world-class speakers and research presentations. Attendees broadened their scope of education through interactive workshops on topics including “The Art of Scenario Development for Technology-Enhanced Simulation-based Testing,” "Packing Your Learning Toolkit with Free Tools," and "The Digital Landscape of Patient and Family Education."

“At Sunnybrook, we are proud of our role as an academic health sciences centre,” said Dr. Ari Zaretsky, VP, Education. “We hope that our annual Education Week and Education Conference affirms the passion for teaching among our community, and offers us new ideas on how to provide the best educational opportunities for our students, colleagues, patients and families.”
