One Night Live - A Success!
On Thursday, May 21, 2009 One Night LiveTM rocked the Air Canada Centre and raised critical funds for the construction of a new Women & Babies Program at Sunnybrook. It featured performances by world renowned artists Sting, Sheryl Crow and the Canadian Tenors and was hosted by Sex and the City's leading man Chris Noth.
Through the generous support of the community and donors, the concert has already raised more than $2 million with more expected as pledges from the show roll in. Funds raised through One Night LiveTM will help build a state-of-the-art, facility for the Women & Babies Program currently under construction at Sunnybrook's Bayview Campus. To be complete in the summer of 2010, the new home will provide world-class space for complex pregnancies in the Aubrey & Marla Dan Program for High Risk Mothers & Babies and will feature a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The Women & Babies Program
The Women & Babies Program at Sunnybrook offers women and their families the most advanced care in a warm and nurturing environment. From issues surrounding fertility and pregnancy to gynaecological surgery and menopause counsel, Sunnybrook continues its role as a world leader in perinatal and gynaecology research and care.
With an international reputation for excellence in caring for women with high-risk pregnancies, Sunnybrook is as a referral centre offering specialized prenatal, birthing and neonatal services to women across Ontario. Of the 4,000 babies born at Sunnybrook each year, approximately one in four is considered "high-risk" and will potentially require specialized intensive care.
Sunnybrook's Multiple Births Clinic, the first of its kind in Canada, cares for women expecting two, three, or more babies. Our focus is on the delivery of family-centered care, giving all babies the best start for a lifetime of healthy development.
Gynaecology is another important focus and Sunnybrook offers specialized infertility services, and is a leader in the detection and treatment of gynaecological cancers, boasting Canada's first and only internationally accredited minimally invasive gynaecological surgery program.
Our leadership in patient care, research and education helps Toronto's smallest patients, their mothers and families, when it matters most.
Now more than ever, the support of our community and people like you is vital for the successful achievement of our capital expansion project, which will build a new state-of-the-art home for women and babies. Your support will benefit the thousands of children who will be born at Sunnybrook for generations to come.
The New Facility
Sunnybrook is building a modern home for our Women & Babies Program that will usher in a new era for the hospital and forever change the standard of care provided to women and their children. The Program will be housed in the impressive 120,000 sq. ft., two-storey addition under construction atop the M-Wing of Sunnybrook's Bayview Avenue campus. Once completed, this facility will be unlike any other in North America and will become the destination of choice for women seeking the most advanced care relating to issues of reproductive health, fertility, pregnancy and childbirth, and will include:
Newborn & Maternal Birthing Unit
Twenty private rooms with modern amenities that will provide Sunnybrook patients with the most comfortable, nurturing birthing experience possible. The Birthing Unit will accommodate our planned expansion from 4,000 to 4,500 births each year.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Our NICU is dedicated to saving the lives of the most critically ill and premature infants in the province. Its award-winning design has received accolades and international attention for innovatively combining family-centered care with cutting-edge medicine.
Neonatal Follow-up Clinic
In its new home, Canada's most comprehensive and progressive neonatal follow-up program will expand its services. Our team will monitor the development of premature infants well into childhood, providing treatment and intervention when needed. Significant progress has already been made towards our fundraising goal for the Women & Babies Program. We are on the threshold of realizing our vision and with your help, we can reach our goal and provide a home
for Sunnybrook's smallest patients and their mother's, when it matters most.
