More than 800 people turn out for Labour of Love

August 25, 2010

Not even the downpour could stop more than 300 walkers who braved the weather for Labour of Love: Walk for Women & Babies, presented by Ensure on Sunday, August 22, 2010.

The event was a huge success having achieved its fundraising goal of $140,000 net and funds are still rolling in for the new, state-of-the-art Women & Babies Program facility which opens on Sunday, September 12, 2010.

More than 300 hundred walkers, including many babies and toddlers, walked the entire nine kilometres starting from 95 Grosvenor St. and ending at the McLean House Park at Sunnybrook's Bayview campus.

The walkers were met by over 500 people who joined the fun-filled carnival and 30th annual Preemie Picnic, which reunites former "grads" from Sunnybrook's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with the staff who cared for them. The celebration included family entertainment from Bob the Builder, Barney and Markus.

"I would like to thank everyone who came out in the rain to celebrate the move of Sunnybrook's new Women & Babies Program facility," says Jeff O'Hagan, CEO of Sunnybrook Foundation. "The greatest thing about this event is that we've reached people who care the most - the patients and their families."

We would like to thank our generous event sponsors Ensure, RBC, UBS, Bassett Media Group, Canadian Family, the Globe and Mail, Astley Gilbert Ltd., clearspace.ca, HIT entertainment and Kidomo for their tremendous support.

Please join us on Thursday, September 2, from 6 - 8 p.m. to get a sneak peek of our new 120,000 sq. ft. Women & Babies Program facility at our Public Open House.
