Manager, Digital Communications - Regular Full-Time (220968)

We currently have a Regular Full-time opportunity for a Manager, Digital Communications in the Digital and Visual Communications Department at our Bayview campus.

Hours of Work: Weekdays: Days; 8 hrs; As per schedule

Are you an experienced and creative digital communications professional who thrives in a collaborative team environment? Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is looking for a Manager of Digital Communications to join our Communications and Stakeholder Relations team. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications and Stakeholder Relations, you will lead a team of six direct reports who are responsible for supporting Sunnybrook’s core digital communications channels, including the public website, intranet and social media channels.

In this role, you will:

Develop and implement Sunnybrook’s social media content strategy to grow the organization’s online communities, serve patients, celebrate our teams, build credibility and grow affinity to the brand:

  • Maintain and develop the social media editorial calendar on behalf of the organization, including the Hospital, Foundation and Research Institute.
  • Approve messages to be posted on the organization’s social media channels.
  • Develop new ways to reach Sunnybrook’s community and stakeholders online. Experiment with creative storytelling approaches, while following and adapting to quickly-changing social media best practices.
  • Provide strategic advice and editorial direction to the organization’s marketing and communications teams who are responsible for developing social media content.
  • Support the senior leadership team, including the President & CEO, with their professional social media channels.
  • Evaluate and report on key social media metrics. Draw insight from data to ensure continual adjustments and improvements are made across social media communications.

Manage, maintain and develop the hospital’s public website (Sunnybrook.ca) and intranet (Sunnynet):

  • Work with stakeholders across the organization (including the heads of departments, clinics, and programs) to assess their needs and help teams find innovative digital solutions.
  • Leverage modern web design practices to educate and engage with our patients, their families and our community.
  • Create wireframes and mockups for website builds and redesigns.
  • Implement mockups using HTML and CSS in Sunnybrook’s various content management systems (including custom CMS and Wordpress).
  • Work with the Lead Web Developer to address technical issues with Sunnybroook.ca and Sunnynet.
  • Research and apply new trends in web design, to ensure Sunnybrook remains a leader in digital communications.
  • Ensure websites adhere to online accessibility standards.
  • Plan for future overhauls of the intranet and external websites (including CMS upgrades), in collaboration with key internal stakeholders.

Lead the Digital Communications team and manage projects:

  • Prioritize digital communications projects according to the organization’s strategic needs and the Digital Communications team’s capacity.
  • Assign projects to members of the Digital Communications team, with a goal of balancing workload and wellness.
  • Provide editorial guidance to digital content creators through regular check-ins and editorial team meetings.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members who work in social media management, to help ensure high-quality and timely responses to patient concerns and public inquiries that Sunnybrook receives via social media.

Develop and implement Sunnybrook’s digital video strategy:

  • Oversee the development and growth of the hospital’s YouTube channel, which is the main online home for the organization’s video content.
  • Develop and enforce digital video standards, including accessibility, copyright and branding.
  • Produce and develop compelling digital video content, in collaboration with communications and marketing teams across the organization.

Manage the hospital’s main digital displays in high-traffic areas:

  • Develop standards and templates to ensure consistency in the design of the digital screens.
  • Ensure the screens display key information for patients, visitors and staff.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience building and managing websites for a large organization.
  • 5+ years of experience leading social media strategies for a large organization.
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team.
  • Excellent project management and planning skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS and web design best practices.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator). Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects would be an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of email marketing tools, such as MailChimp.
  • Expert understanding of best practices for digital content development and community engagement across a variety of channels.
