Speech-Language Pathologist- Neurovascular Unit- Regular Part-Time (221032)

We currently have a Regular Part Time (0.2 FTE) opportunity for a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Neurovascular Unit at our Bayview Campus.

Hours of work: Weekdays and Weekends: Days; 3.75 and 7.5 hrs; Every 3rd weekend; 2 out of every 4 Mondays As per schedule.

Summary of Duties

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is an important member of the inter-professional team on a dedicated stroke unit.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Swallowing and communication assessment intervention to stroke patients within NVU
  • Assessments and treatment modalities will be completed according to the Canadian Stroke Strategy Best Practice recommendations with the team goal of improving Sunnybrook Health Science Centre’s patient outcomes while providing superior patient care
  • Responsible for providing education to colleagues including nurses and medical staff, families and patients
  • Participates in discipline specific and inter-professional education of health profession students
  • Participate in rounds, meetings and quality initiatives and assist with coverage in other areas of general medicine as needed

Qualifications/Skills

  • Current CASLPO registration
  • 2 years of experience in an acute care environment
  • Experience working with stroke patients required
  • Experience with dysphagia assessment and management including video fluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing required
  • Experience in assessment and management of patients with tracheostomies would be an asset
  • Previous clinical teaching experience would be preferable
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills and ability to work as part of an inter-professional team
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain and upgrade skills and knowledge through continuing education
