Congratulations Estella Tse and 17 other Sunnybrook OTs

February 28, 2020

Occupational therapist Estella Tse is the recipient of the Exceptional Fieldwork Teaching Award from the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, University of Toronto for the 2018-2019 academic year.

The award is granted based on an ongoing record of excellence consistently reported by students and faculty. It is the highest honour the U of T department can bestow.

“Estella is outstanding – the most compassionate, innovative, collaborative practitioner who advocates for patients, improves the health-care system, and enables excellence in others,” says Isabella Cheng, professional and education leader for occupational therapy at Sunnybrook’s Bayview Campus & Holland Centre, and student fieldwork coordinator, Bayview Campus.

Estella has been an occupational therapist at Sunnybrook since 1989 and currently works in the Tory Trauma Program on C5. Her teaching excellence shines through those who had her as their preceptor and gone on to do practiced-based research fellowships, patient education improvements and collaborations with provincial agencies.

“When I meet with students, so many say they want to be the kind of OT that Estella is,” says Cheng.

In May, Estella will also be recognized at a national level, being awarded the Fieldwork Educator Award of Excellence by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).

Congratulations also goes to another 17 fantastic Sunnybrook OT educators who were recognized at the 2020 U of T Fieldwork Educator Recognition Awards.
