The DeGasperis family has a long history of community leadership at Sunnybrook, going back many years and several generations.

When Dr. Robert Maggisano wanted to grow the hospital's newly established vascular program, Giovanni "Papa John" DeGasperis took the existing fundraising efforts to a completely different level, helping to create one of the top programs in Canada.

When Dr. Maggisano shared his vision for a hybrid operating room at Sunnybrook, the DeGasperis family— father Giovanni, mother Anna and sons Michael, Carlo and Silvio — did not hesitate. Not only did they step up as lead donors, they also inspired support from their community and helped to raise over $6 million for this unprecedented project.

Larger than a standard operating room, the hybrid OR will allow for both open and minimally invasive surgery at the same time, so teams can work together on the same patient to save precious minutes. Sunnybrook cares for some of the sickest and most critically injured patients from across the province. The new hybrid operating room will ensure the best possible outcomes when a life is on the line.
