Sentinel Lymph Node

Introduction

These are the first nodes that the lymph fluid from the tumour reaches before spreading to other lymph nodes.  Depending on the location of the patient's tumour, the sentinel lymph node may be under the arm or in the groin area.  There may be more than one sentinel lymph node.
