Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is a fractionated blood product used to treat a variety of diseases in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), including hemolytic disease of the newborn. Although several audits have reported inappropriate IVIG use in adults, the rate of appropriate IVIG utilization in neonates has never been investigated. A retrospective medical chart review was performed of neonates who received IVIG in the NICU over a ten year period.
