Arthroplasty

Introduction

Arthroplasty is an orthopaedic operative procedure to partially or completely resurface, remodel, rebuild, or replace an arthritic, dysfunctional, or necrotic joint of the knee, shoulder, hip, or other site of the body. An orthopaedic physician can determine when arthroplasty is indicated to treat and manage a joint condition if nonsurgical therapy is deemed ineffective or inappropriate. Optimal outcomes from arthroplasty include pain alleviation, a return to full range of motion, improvement in mobility, and muscle strengthening.
