Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)

Post-procedure

  • You may feel sleepy if you have had sedation
  • The technologist and a volunteer will escort you by wheelchair to the Outpatient monitoring area
  • You MUST have someone accompany you from the hospital.  DO NOT attempt to drive home by yourself.  
  • Do not eat or drink for approximately 1 hour after the test, because your throat will still be frozen
  • It is normal to feel some MILD discomfort on swallowing for a couple of days after the test. 
  •  Any SEVERE discomfort is ABNORMAL and you should seek immediate medical attention.
