Leadership Announcement: Chief, St. John's Rehab Program

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Amanda Mayo as the new Chief of the St. John’s Rehab Program, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, effective July 1, 2024.

Dr. Mayo is a graduate of the University of Toronto. She completed five years of residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Toronto. Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Mayo obtained MSc in Clinical Engineering, Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Dr. Mayo holds certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Mayo is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Mayo has been part of Sunnybrook since 2013, when she first joined as a staff physician in the Department of Medicine. Since 2020, Dr. Mayo is an Associate Director, of the University of Toronto Centre for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (CQuIPS). With expertise in quality improvement and patient safety, Dr. Mayo has led large-scale projects improving access to care and patient outcomes across healthcare organizations. Her research is focused on improving long-term outcomes post-limb loss and innovating limb loss care. Since 2020, she has been involved in over 20 funded projects where she is either the primary investigator or co-investigator. Dr. Mayo is an international leader in digital fabrication of prosthetics with computer assisted design and 3D printing. Nationally, she is leading the creation of standardized limb loss treatment pathways.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Dr. Amanda Mayo as the newly appointed Chief of the St. John’s Rehab Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Her dedication to specialized rehabilitation care will continue to drive the St. John’s Rehab Program to innovate and shape the future of rehabilitation, contributing significantly to Sunnybrook’s vision of advancing health care.

We would also like to express our deep appreciation to Dr. Larry Robinson for his outstanding leadership as Chief of the St. John’s Rehab Program over the past decade. Dr. Robinson has established a robust foundation that ensures Sunnybrook remains a leader in rehabilitation care in Canada.
