Staff member and volunteer receive Human Touch Awards

June 18, 2018

Congratulations to Ananth Ravi, PhD, and Steven Golick, two members of the Odette Cancer Centre team who received 2018 Cancer Care Ontario Human Touch Awards at a special ceremony last week.

The Human Touch Awards recognize the exemplary and compassionate work of professionals or volunteers in the fields of cancer and kidney care.

Staff Award: Ananth Ravi is both the lead Brachytherapy Physicist as well as the Operations Lead for Brachytherapy at the Odette Cancer Centre. His dedication academic commitment to his patients is reflected in all aspects of his work.

He has led the implementation of both MRI-guided and interstitial brachytherapy, which has significantly improved outcomes in patients with locally advanced disease. This was all possible due to Ananth’s vision and commitment to patient care.

Ananth dedicates his time to each patient who comes through his department. He meets with each patient to ensure they receive optimal care that meets their individual needs and focuses on improving their quality of life. His high standards are maintained in every aspect of the patient experience and his approach is innovative and patient-centred. He collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team in managing complex disease treatment, working relentlessly to ensure all patients receive safe high-quality individualized care.

Volunteer Award: Steven Golick was the past Co-Chair of the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre's first Patient and Family Advisor Council. Through compassion, leadership and commitment, he has helped transform the centre's approach to the patient experience, and has been a catalyst for integrating the patient voice into care delivery.

His personal experience provided him with excellent insight into the challenges cancer patients face, as well as potential solutions.

Steven has been generous with his time, actively participating as an advisor at Cancer Care Ontario events and as a member of the Quality Committee of the Board of Sunnybrook. He is a retired partner in, and former chair of, the insolvency and restructuring group of one of Osler Hoskin & Harcourt LLP.

Steven has chordoma, a very rare form of cancer that occurs in the spine or skull. In addition to his Sunnybrook volunteer work, he is a member of the Community Advisory Board of the Chordoma Foundation, which provides information and support for patients and families and funds research. He also co-founded the not-for profit Canadian Chordoma Network.

Please join us in congratulating Ananth and Steven for receiving these Awards.
