Estimated Wait Time Display launches in Emergency Department
On Friday, Sunnybrook’s Emergency Department (ED) launched a wait time prediction tool for patients on the Sunnybrook website at sunnybrook.ca/wait, and in the ED waiting room on a digital screen.
The Estimated Wait Time Display shows the predicted maximum time the majority of patients will wait until Physician Initial Assessment. This prediction is updated hourly.
Many Emergency Departments in other organizations are using a display system to keep their patients informed during their wait for emergency care. We anticipate our patients will benefit from this knowledge and that by putting information in their hands, it will increase transparency and reduce their stress.
Through before and after-launch surveys, we will be actively monitoring how this tool is used and received by patients and staff to ensure sharing wait time information is beneficial for everyone.
