Celebrating National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week

April 18, 2016

April 18 to 22 is National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week. As Canada’s largest single-site critical care resource, and the first and largest trauma centre in the country, Sunnybrook knows the importance of organ and tissue donation. One organ donor can save up to eight lives, and one tissue donor can enhance the lives of up 75 others.

This year, we are recognizing the hidden heroes of organ and tissue donation. In addition to the transplant teams working in the operating room, a large team of people works behind the scenes at Sunnybrook to make sure organ and tissue donations happen. People working in a variety of roles, from ward clerks to porters to security, play an essential part in every organ and tissue donation at the hospital.
