Bruker 7T Preclinical MRI
The preclinical 7T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) facility at Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI), under the directorship of Dr. Jamie Near, allows for in-depth, high-quality preclinical imaging research. The Bruker 7T MRI system is ideally suited for preclinical and molecular MRI research. Current research interests being explored include:
- Characterization of peripheral arterial plaques to plan intravascular interventions
- Use of spectroscopy to assess neurometabolite concentrations
- Functional brain imaging in stroke and Alzheimer's disease models
- Using MRI to detect early tumour changes that may indicate responsiveness to chemotherapy
- MRI-guided focused ultrasound
- Brain and spinal cord myelin imaging.
The ability to perform longitudinal and noninvasive imaging is critical for translational research. The 7T system allows researchers to characterize and track disease pathology and progression, and test and monitor the effectiveness of disease interventions in animal models of disease.
This MRI facility is a centralized resource equipped with a range of imaging coils and animal monitoring equipment.
We are continually updating and expanding our services to keep up with advances in technology and its applications. Our facility is open to the SRI community as well as to investigators from external institutions.
We offer training on the use of the MRI and animal monitoring equipment. We also provide opportunities for SRI research fellows and students to gain experience and training. We encourage collaborative opportunities with investigators on research projects and support investigators' grant applications.
