O-arm and StealthStation S7 Surgical Navigation System

Sunnybrook is a world leader in the treatment of musculoskeletal (MSK) trauma, arthroplasty and metastases. Intraoperative imaging has revolutionized MSK surgery and yielded significant improvements in clinical outcomes through reducing invasiveness and improving accuracy. However, intraoperative MSK imaging is most often used qualitatively in two dimensions (2-D) and requires high levels of training and experience. Better tools are needed to aid 3-D intraoperative visualization, accuracy and guidance to extend and optimize MSK procedures.

The O-arm is a mobile, isocentric, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) flat-panel detector system for intraoperative use. Integration of the O-arm with the StealthStation S7 Surgical Navigation System enables real-time intraoperative tracking of skeletal structures and tools. The StealthLink software allows image data from this system to be accessed directly to enable investigations of specialized image reconstruction techniques to improve hard and soft tissue visualization, essential for avoiding critical structures.

The following core equipment is available for use:

  • O-arm CBCT imaging system
  • StealthStation navigation system (spine, trauma and cranial packages)
  • StealthLink (software)

We can also provide opportunities for research fellows and students at Sunnybrook Research Institute to gain experience and training using intraoperative navigation. We encourage collaborative opportunities with investigators on research projects and support investigators' grant applications.
