Nuclear polarization device
Sunnybrook Research Institute's new Oxford Instruments HyperSense dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) device (located on the ground floor of S wing, next to the 3T MRI scanner) gives scientists the opportunity to increase the sensitivity, accuracy and depth of their nuclear magnetic resonance experiments to levels never before thought possible. The hospital's polarizer, operational since early September 2007, will be used by scientists to make images of metabolic processes, which will help them better understand myocardial infarction and cancer. The unit cost about $744,000.
