Cardiac Surgeon, Director, Aorta and Aneurysm Centre at Sunnybrook
Dr. Tarola is a Cardiac and Aortic Surgeon at the Schulich Heart Center at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center. He is the Co-Director of the Complex Aortic Center within the Schulich Heart Center. He received his MD from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University, where he subsequently completed his residency training. During residency, he completed his Masters in Public Health with a focus in Clinical Methods and Biostatistics from the T.H. Chan School of Public Health at Harvard University.
Following his cardiac surgery training, he completed his fellowship in advanced aortic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, under the mentorship of Drs. Lars Svenssson, Eric Roselli, Douglas Johnston, and Patrick Vargo. He subspecialty trained in the management of aortic valve and aortic root pathology, ascending and aortic arch surgery, thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair, and minimally invasive endovascular thoracic aneurysm repair.
Dr. Tarola has published multiple manuscripts in peer reviewed journals, and has presented at multiple national and international meetings. He serves as a reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Cardiology and Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. His current clinical and academic interests are in the management of aortic disease, and minimally invasive applications to treat aortic pathology
