- Vascular interventional fellowship, 2002, University of Toronto
Appointments and Affiliations:
- Affiliate scientist, Physical Sciences, Odette Cancer Research Program, Sunnybrook Research Institute
- Vascular interventional radiologist, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
- Assistant professor, department of medical imaging, University of Toronto
Research Foci:
- Women’s health, with a focus on minimally invasive treatments as it pertains to fibroids and fertility
- Efficacy of high-intensity ultrasound in the treatment of uterine pathology
Research Summary:
Uterine fibroids can cause heavy bleeding, pain and infertility. High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) offers a means of treating fibroids in a noninvasive manner, with no incisions or needles, unlike surgical or embolization options. Dr. David’s research concentrates on techniques that increase ablation zone and decrease time in treatment of fibroids using HIFU. Ongoing areas of study include:
- focused ultrasound applications in fibroids and bone metastases
- liver directed therapy in the setting of advanced liver tumors and metastases
- vertebral augmentation and treatment of bone metastases with ablative therapy.
