Research Summary:
Dr. Madan is an academic interventional cardiologist and director of interventional cardiology clinical trials research at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Her research interests are focused primarily on the clinical investigation of new antiplatelet and antithrombotic therapies during percutaneous coronary interventions, and the management and prevention of acute coronary syndromes, including acute myocardial infarction.
Specific areas of interest include thrombocytopenia associated with glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors, the evaluation of new point-of-care platelet function and genotyping assays, the evaluation of anticoagulants and platelet inhibitors in the angioplasty setting, the evaluation of platelet and leukocyte function during coronary interventions, and country-specific differences in angioplasty outcomes.
Another research focus has been investigating the utility of new devices for coronary intervention, such as small vessel stents, drug-eluting stents and intravascular ultrasound. She has 18 years of experience with leadership positions in the design and conduct of clinical trials in interventional cardiology.
