Dr. Joseph Schatzker is known internationally for his expertise in trauma and fracture management and served as program director for the division of orthopaedic surgery at Sunnybrook until January 2001.
Dr. Schatzker is the author of several textbooks as well as the co-author of two editions of the world-famous Schatzker-Tile book: “The Rationale of Operative Fracture Management”. He is known as
Mr. AO for his involvement in the development of the current methods of fracture fixation. In 2007, he became a member of the Order of Canada.
Dr. Schatzker is currently the director of the Mueller Institute based at Sunnybrook and is a Professor Emeritus of surgery at the University of Toronto. He joined the staff in 1969.
