Pet Visitors

Cats & Dogs

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all patients, staff, volunteers, physicians, visitors and pets. Recognizing that a visit by a family pet can lift the spirits of patients, pet visitations are allowed on the St. John's Rehab grounds only. Pets are prohibited from coming in the hospital.

Note: Service animals and registered dog visit volunteers are exempted from this policy.

Pets must:

  • Be on leash or in a carrier at all times
  • Be accompanied by a handler known to the pet at all times while on hospital premises (exterior)
  • The pet handler must pick up animal waste and dispose of it in the outside receptacle
  • The patient must wash his/her hands with soap and water or use an alcohol sanitizer at the end of their visit.

This policy is in place for the following purposes:

  • To reduce the risk of infections, allergic reactions, and environmentalhazards;
  • To ensure the overall safety of patients, staff, volunteers, physicians, visitors and pets;
  • To reduce the possibility of pets picking up pathogens and taking them home.

For information about registered dog visit volunteers, please contact Volunteer Services.
