Pet Visitors
We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all patients, staff, volunteers, physicians, visitors and pets. Recognizing that a visit by a family pet can lift the spirits of patients, pet visitations are allowed on the St. John's Rehab grounds only. Pets are prohibited from coming in the hospital.
Note: Service animals and registered dog visit volunteers are exempted from this policy.
Pets must:
- Be on leash or in a carrier at all times
- Be accompanied by a handler known to the pet at all times while on hospital premises (exterior)
- The pet handler must pick up animal waste and dispose of it in the outside receptacle
- The patient must wash his/her hands with soap and water or use an alcohol sanitizer at the end of their visit.
This policy is in place for the following purposes:
- To reduce the risk of infections, allergic reactions, and environmentalhazards;
- To ensure the overall safety of patients, staff, volunteers, physicians, visitors and pets;
- To reduce the possibility of pets picking up pathogens and taking them home.
