Mindfulness
Mindfulness therapies can also be a positive treatment option for patients with depression, especially when combined with cognitive therapy. Helping patients through mindfulness strategies allows them to notice negative thinking patterns and redirect their thoughts.
Mindfulness Exercise: The Mindful Body Scan
This popular mindfulness exercise is simple to do
Step 1: Start by lying on your back with your palms facing up and your feet falling slightly apart, or sit in a comfortable chair with feet resting on the floor.
Step 2: Lie down or sit very still for the duration of the exercise. Only move if it becomes necessary to adjust your position.
Step 3: Bring awareness to the rhythm of your breath and how it feels as you breathe in and out.
Step 4: Focus on bringing your attention to your body and how it feels, how your clothing feels on your skin, your body temperature, and environment.
Step 5: Make mental notes of where you may be feeling no sensation or hypersensitivity.
Step 6: Open your eyes and move naturally to a comfortable sitting position.
