Remote ischemic conditioning

Definition

Repeated, temporary cessation of blood flow to a limb to induce ischemia (lack of oxygen and glucose) in the tissue. This “conditioning” activates the body’s protective mechanisms against the damage caused by blood returning to tissue. It aims to reduce harm to an organ, most commonly in the context of heart attack or stroke.
