Anxiety

Definition

A feeling of apprehension and fear characterized by symptoms such as palpitations, sweating and feelings of stress.

Anxiety disorders are chronic conditions. There are six in adults, and seven in younger people: social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, specific phobia, generalized anxiety disorder and separation anxiety (in children and youth).

They affect about 12% of Canadians in any given year.
