Ear Prosthesis
Overview
An ear prosthesis is a removable device that artificially restores part of or the entire natural ear. An ear prosthesis offers an alternative to rehabilitation when surgical reconstruction of an ear cannot be achieved, or is preferred by the patient. An artificial ear can be attached either through the use of adhesives or craniofacial implants. Ear prostheses are most commonly cast out of a silicone rubber that can be tinted to match the specific pigmentation of the individual. No significant improvements in hearing can be expected from restoring a missing ear through the use of prosthetics.
