Morton’s Neuroma

Introduction

Morton's NeuromaMorton’s neuroma is typically described as pain or numbness in the forefoot, often radiating towards the toes. The pain tends to be greatest with wearing high-heeled shoes or ill-fitting shoes.

Morton’s neuroma occurs as a result of inflammation of the inter-digital nerve that runs between the metatarsal bones. It is most commonly found between the 3rd and 4th metatarsal bones, but may also be found between the other metatarsal bones. There is no one cause of a Morton’s neuroma.

It results from factors such as:

  • Poor foot mechanics
  • Tight/ill-fitting footwear
  • Injury
