Sunnybrook Canadian Simulation Centre awarded re-accreditation
Sunnybrook Canadian Simulation Centre (SCSC) has received a five-year re-accreditation from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). It was the first simulation program in Ontario to receive this distinction back in 2011 and every five years since.
Accreditation is a voluntary process that includes an external review of a simulation program's ability to provide continuing professional development activities according to the highest standards. It recognizes that the simulation program has passed a rigorous peer review, ensuring that simulation-based learning activities are planned and delivered according to simulation best practice and the latest research.
The SCSC was the first of its kind in Canada when it opened in 1995. Every year, more than 3,000 healthcare professionals, including allied health, nursing, physicians and surgeons benefit from simulation-based programs to enhance patient safety and care.
The SCSC continues to be a leader in simulation with a focus on team performance and patient safety. In 2022, the Centre was awarded Leading Practice by the Health Standards Organization (HSO) and Accreditation Canada for its work in supporting Ontario teams in using team-based models of care and helping to mitigate health human resource challenges experienced at Sunnybrook and throughout the healthcare system.
