Education research grants awarded

Congratulations to recipients of the 2015 Sunnybrook Education Research and Scholarship Grants.

Fifteen applications were received from a variety of departments and programs within the hospital.

The eight projects below were chosen by an external judging panel to receive funding totaling $60,000.

Tracey DasGupta “Exploration of Unit based Interprofessional Care and Interprofessional Education at Sunnybrook”

Dr. Lesley Gotlib Conn “Enhancing Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Education in Trauma: An Ethnographic Study”

Dr. Yulia Lin “Obstetrical Transfusion Medicine Knowledge Assessment during a Validated Assessment Tool”

Dr. Joan Lipa “Supporting Pre-operative Education for Patients pursuing Immediate Breast Reconstruction: The Impact of Patient Mentoring”

Dr. Dominique Piquette “Effects of Level of Trainee Autonomy during Acute Care Episodes on Learning of Technical and Non-technical Skills to Prevent Patient Harm”

Dr. Laura Snell “The Potential Role for Simulated Training in the Identification and Management of a Compromised Free Flap: An Interdisciplinary Needs Assessment”

Dr. Ewa Szumacher “Assessing the Impact of an Instructional Video on Patients’ Compliance with Bowel and Bladder Preparation Instructions for CT Scan Planning for Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) for Prostate Cancer”

These grants aim to build capacity for education research and scholarship at Sunnybrook.

“These research projects have the potential to change the way health-care education is delivered to students, staff, patients and families at Sunnybrook and beyond,” said Dr. Carilynne Yarascavitch, director of Sunnybrook’s Education Research Unit. “Through support of these projects, we can continue to expand, develop and share our expertise in education.”
