Q and A with an Education Champion: Dr. Markku Nousiainen
Dr. Markku Nousiainen has been an orthopedic surgeon for eight years. He is also director of the orthopedic residency program.
Along with resident Dr. Marissa Bonyun and a team of others, Dr. Nousiainen was recently received an award for best podium presentation at the Sunnybrook Education Conference for their project “Assessment & Implementation of a Simulated ‘Entrustable Professional Act’ in Orthopaedic Surgery – A Pilot Study".
We briefly caught up with Dr. Nousiainen to hear what he likes about being involved in education.
1. What do you like the most about your job? Teaching our residents.
2. How does it feel to receive an award for your work as an education researcher? Our team feels very fortunate.
3. What advice do you have for other educators, preceptors or mentors or education researchers at Sunnybrook and beyond? Collaboration is essential.
4. What's one thing you have learned through conducting education research? Competency-based education is the way to go!
