High honour

Congratulations to Dr. Graham Wright, who has been elected a Senior Fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). Wright was the only recipient from a Canadian institution recognized this year, and is now one of only eight Canadian Senior Fellows.

Director of the Schulich Heart Research Program at Sunnybrook Research Institute, Wright is also a senior scientist. Additionally, he is a professor in medical biophysics at the University of Toronto, a consultant in the radiology department at the Hospital for Sick Children, and a consultant in the electrical engineering and radiology departments at Stanford University.

Wright’s research focus is on cardiovascular imaging for disease assessment and intervention guidance. He specifically works with MRI. Among other efforts, he is exploring the link between MR signals and the physiology in blood and tissue, and developing strategies to capture and interpret medical images. His current work focuses on cardiac diseases as he seeks new imaging approaches to foster minimally invasive cardiovascular therapies.

The ISMRM is a multidisciplinary nonprofit association that promotes innovation, development and application of magnetic resonance techniques in medicine and biology worldwide. It is made up of clinicians, physicists, engineers, biochemists and technologists.

Fellows of the Society are awarded for their achievements and significant contributions to research.

Wright was honoured with the award during a ceremony held April 24, 2017 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
