Man of Distinction
Dr. Michael Julius, vice-president of research at Sunnybrook, was awarded a Man of Distinction 2010 award by the Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of immunology. The award was presented October 19 at a luncheon held in downtown Toronto to honour Julius and fellow award recipient, Mr. Dale Lastman.
“I am privileged to share this moment with all of you, my adopted friends and family,” says Julius to the crowd of hundreds who attended the ceremony in support of the honourees and the ICRF.
“The passion and commitment of the Israel Cancer Research Fund to finding treatments and cures for cancer are truly remarkable. The results of research it has funded are reverberating across Canada and the world, and will do so for many years to come,” he adds.
Julius was commended for his work toward understanding lymphocyte activation, and the cellular and molecular interactions culminating in protective immunity. This work has led to numerous breakthroughs in the field, and has formed a foundation on which many other leading immunologists worldwide are building.
