Sunnybrook hosts fifth Earth Matters Showcase

April 16, 2014

Today Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre will host its fifth Earth Matters Showcase, a tradition that started in 2009. The Showcase is an annual expo that celebrates all things 'green' at Sunnybrook and focuses on creating awareness about environmental issues, getting employees involved in greening initiatives, and encouraging sustainable behaviours at work, home and in the community.

Sunnybrook is widely recognized by the healthcare industry as an environmental leader and has received significant recognition for our efforts, including being named one of Canada's Greenest Employers every year since 2009.

"We are always striving to become a greener and more sustainable healthcare facility," said Dr. Barry McLellan, president and CEO, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. "The Showcase is an incredible opportunity to highlight the great work we are doing, while passing on invaluable information from green companies to our staff, and the community."

Sunnybrook was also the recent recipient of the CHES Wayne McLellan Award of Excellence in 2013 and the Green Toronto Business Award in 2012.

Keynote speaker is Dr. Lisa Nisbet, an assistant psychology professor at Trent University and an expert in the field of nature relatedness. Dr. Nisbet will talk about how contact with nature influences health and happiness, and the consequences of disconnection from nature for making environmentally decisions.

The Earth Matters Showcase is open to the public from 9:30am - 2:30pm on Wednesday, April 16, in the McLaughlin Auditorium, 2075 Bayview Ave. Exhibitors will include: Smart Commute, Honeywell, Grand & Toy, Blue Zone, Green for Life Recycling, Zipcar, Toronto Water, and Live Green Toronto.
