Sunnybrook receives two awards for organ and tissue donation

March 2, 2016

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has received two awards from Trillium Gift of Life Network, Ontario’s agency for organ and tissue donation, for its dedication to saving lives through transplantation.

Sunnybrook received the Hospital Achievement Award – Provincial Conversion Rate, given to hospitals that met or exceeded the target of a 67% Conversion Rate in 2014/2015. Conversion Rate is the percentage of actual organ donors from the total number of potentially eligible organ donors.

Additionally, Debra Carew, Operations Director, Trauma Emergency & Critical Care Program at Sunnybrook, was selected to receive the Hospital Donation Champion Award, given to healthcare professionals who are active advocates for organ and tissue donation within the hospital.

“We are proud to acknowledge the important contributions of our hospital partners. The success of organ and tissue donation in Ontario relies on their hard work and dedication,” says Ronnie Gavsie, President and CEO at Trillium Gift of Life Network. “Together, we work to make sure families are given the opportunity to honour their loved ones wishes and save lives through organ and tissue donation.”

There are 1,600 people in Ontario waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. Register your consent for organ and tissue donation at beadonor.ca/sunnybrook and talk to your family about your wishes.
