Sunnybrook ranked one of Canada’s Top 10 Research Hospitals for 2024
Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) was ranked in the top 10 on the 2024 list of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals, released by RE$EARCH Infosource Inc. The list analyzes hospital-based research institutes on several metrics, including total funding.
This year, SRI maintained its standing at #9, with hospital research spending totalling more than $140M in the past fiscal year, an increase of 9.3% from the previous year. Under institution intensity, defined as research intensity as a percentage of total hospital spending, SRI ranked fourth with 9.8% intensity. For researcher intensity, used to measure income per scientist, SRI ranked 10th in the country with an average of $346K in expenditure per researcher.
The top 40 list scores hospitals across the country based on total research income in the previous fiscal year, as reported in the Canadian Research Hospitals Database. Funds that are considered include grants, contributions and contracts from government and non-government sources in the previous fiscal year.
