Sunnybrook Medventions Day 2020

Thursday, November 5, 2020 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Theme of the day: Scaling Up Medical Device Innovations in the Era of COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic has had devastating impacts on healthcare systems and has brought irreversible changes to the entire global economy. It has caused massive strain on the healthcare workforce and clinical infrastructure and has posed enormous demand for innovative medical technologies and diagnostic interventions. Furthermore, it has required health system stakeholders around the world to cooperate to unprecedented levels to uncover innovative ways to overcome challenges and embrace opportunities during these challenging times.

Therefore, as industry, academia and governments around the world continue to struggle with the effects of a pandemic of this nature, the healthcare industry, and medical devices sector, in particular, have become the centerpiece of the recovery and rejuvenation efforts from this health crisis.

This year’s innovation day will address topics related to the scaling up phase of medical device development in these challenging times, and the creation of an ecosystem that enables Canada to leverage its strong manufacturing base, skilled manpower and supportive government initiatives to grow the medical devices sector to not only support domestic requirements, but to also cater to the emergent global healthcare needs.
