Optical surface imaging for surgical navigation

Dr. Yang

This project has resulted in patent applications in the patent cooperation treaty phase, for the method and apparatus for real-space surgical navigation that doesn’t require markers to correlate images made by different imaging systems, with applications in spinal and orthopedic surgery, and neurosurgery. The prototypes developed in this research are being tested at multiple hospitals preclinically. The technology developed through this research may significantly change surgical navigation and potentially benefit patients undergoing spinal, orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures.
