Today is the first full day of operations in Sunnybrook’s new Garry Hurvitz Brain Sciences Centre, with teams transitioning to the new facility.
 
Thursday, January 16, 2025  World First: Researches & physicians at Sunnybrook and SickKids deliver chemotherapy to pediatric brain tumours using MRI-guided focused ultrasound
Researchers and physicians at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) are the first in the world to use MRI-guided focused ultrasound to open the blood-brain barrier and deliver chemotherapy in Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an aggressive and terminal pediatric brain tumour.

On January 20, 2025, the doors to the new Garry Hurvitz Brain Sciences Centre, located at our Bayview campus, will be open and most Hurvitz Brain Sciences program clinical care will transition to the new building.
