Sunnybrook recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for 2023

Thanks to the hard work of our staff and a significant number of innovative green programs, Sunnybrook was announced today as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for 2023 by Mediacorp Canada Inc. This marks the 15^th consecutive year of recognition for Sunnybrook.

“Climate change continues to have an undeniable impact on our world, and so it is important to have a coordinated and dedicated approach to environmental sustainability and greening healthcare at Sunnybrook," says Michael Lithgow, co-chair of the hospital-wide Green Task Force. “Receiving this Greenest Employer honour for the 15^th time really speaks to Sunnybrook's commitment to creating a more environmentally sustainable hospital environment.”

This national competition is organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. The designation recognizes employers that are leaders in integrating environmental principles into their corporate culture and have developed environmentally friendly programs that are recognized not only within the facility but also throughout the community.

Sunnybrook was recognized for its dedication to Green initiatives, for example:

• The hospital’s building footprint includes an architecturally integrated solar photovoltaic array on an existing parking structure, cool roofing systems to reflect heat, and LED lighting retrofits to help save energy. Beehives are also supported at the Bayview campus
• Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre encourages employees to consider cycling to work with secure bike parking, and two bike-share stations on the Bayview campus.
• Along with traditional consumer-facing recycling programs, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre also supports team-level waste reduction initiatives as well as anesthetic gas capture technology
