Meet & Greet with Don Cherry: A Finale to the 2005 Year of the Veteran

January 30, 2006

Veterans at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre will welcome one of the “greatest Canadians”, Hockey Night in Canada’s, Don Cherry, for the finale event to 2005 Year of the Veteran on Tuesday January 31.

Mr. Cherry or “Grapes”, as some may know him, paid a brief visit to the veterans in October 2005 while at Sunnybrook as part of the “flu shot” campaign. Mr. Cherry is coming back, as promised, to pay a special visit to the veterans. Don Cherry’s arrival is an experience that is nothing short of exciting and is the perfect grand finale to a year dedicated to our veterans. As a symbol of their gratitude, the veterans will present Mr. Cherry with a personalized gift.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has a long and distinguished history in the care of our country’s war heroes. In 1948, Sunnybrook Veteran’s Hospital opened and was a symbol of a nation’s gratitude to its war veterans. Today, more than half a century later, it remains the largest veteran’s care facility in Canada.
