Schulich Heart Centre gets new chief

September 17, 2010

Sunnybrook is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Bradley Strauss as the new chief of the Schulich Heart Centre.

Dr. Strauss is head of the division of cardiology at Sunnybrook and holds the Reichmann Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences. He is a professor at the University of Toronto, a senior scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and serves also as the director of the Imaging Research Centre for Cardiac Intervention.

Dr. Struass is an outstanding and internationally renowned researcher. His research at the Schulich Heart Centre is focused on developing new ways to diagnose and treat blockages in the coronary arteries (chronic total occlusions) in order to prevent heart attacks and heart failure and restore quality of life to patients with this condition.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Heart and Stroke Foundation and other agencies fund Dr. Strauss's work.

He's published over 400 research papers and presentations, been granted multiple patents and shaped a generation of investigators who will continue to evolve the understanding of why blockages in blood vessels happen and how to get them working again.

Dr. Strauss replaces Dr. Brian Gilbert, who stepped down in June after 15 years of exceptional leadership as chief.
