Education Research Grants total nearly $60K

May 9, 2013

A new funding opportunity to support education research and scholarship at Sunnybrook was met with great enthusiasm this year.

In the inaugural peer-reviewed education research grant competition, 27 applications were received, totalling $239,099 in requested funds.

The applicants had a wide range of education research experience, and represented eight professions/disciplines at Sunnybrook.

A four-person panel reviewed the applications and chose to fund seven proposals – granting $59,926.20 in total.

“The seven funded proposals are really exciting but there were definitely others that we could not fund that would have produced solid, disseminable research and made Sunnybrook proud,” said Dr. Ayelet Kuper, head of the grant committee.

A breakdown of the successful proposals:

Principal investigators: 4 Physicians, 1 Occupational Therapist, 2 of Pharmacists (CoPIs) & 1 Radiation Technologist

Five projects involve new technologies (2 simulation-based, 3 using online and/or video technology)

Four projects are quantitative & 3 are qualitative

The projects focus on different learners, including trainees in various professions, staff clinicians, interprofessional groups and patients.
